Grace (2008)

Acrylic on Canvas, 12 × 12 inches

A poignant, intimate archive of my earlier artistic development, Grace serves as a foundational piece that signals the beginning of my focus on pattern-rich portraiture and geometric systems. The composition is defined by a dense, rhythmic intersection of soft, organic line work and bold, eruptive bursts of red. I also began creating negative space by using my palette knife to intersect and remove paint.

As a psychodynamic study, the work explores the tension between chaos and the curated sanctuary of the self. The heavy, layered textures—characteristic of my process-centered approach—create a topography of endurance, mapping the early emergence of the visual language that would eventually define my collections. It is a quiet yet profound reminder of the internal labors required to maintain presence and grace through the changing seasons of one's own evolution.
